This application process is designed for skilled immigrants seeking permanent residence in Canada and participation in the economy. Express Entry is an online system managing applications from skilled workers aspiring to become Canadian permanent residents. Eligible candidates submit a profile, and top-ranked individuals are invited to apply for permanent residence.

Once minimum requirements are met, applicants enter the Express Entry pool. Eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program is assessed on a 100-point grid system, with a current pass mark of 67 points.

To initiate the immigration process as a skilled worker, create an online Express Entry profile, and obtain a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. The CRS determines your ranking in the pool based on factors like skills, work experience, language ability, and education.

If you need assistance with writing academic papers related to your immigration process, consider using studishark, a service that acts as an academic writing assistant. This service can help ensure your documents are well-prepared and enhance your chances of success.

There are three categories under this program for direct applications to become a permanent resident.

Federal Skilled Worker Program:

This program is designed for individuals with specific work experience who plan to reside in any province or territory outside of Quebec. Foreign nationals can initiate the immigration process under the Federal Skilled Worker Program by assessing whether they meet the program’s minimum requirements.

The minimum requirements are:

  1. To be eligible, you need one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the last 10 years in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level 0, A, or B.
  2. You must have a validated language ability equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in both English and French, covering all abilities – reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

  3. You need to have a Canadian educational credential (certificate, diploma, or degree) or a foreign credential along with an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.

Federal Skill Trades Program:

This is one of three federal economic programs managed by the Government of Canada’s Express Entry system.

In order to qualify for Federal Skilled Trades applicants must have:

To be eligible for this program, applicants must have either:

  1. Valid job offers for continuous, paid, full-time employment (at least 30 hours a week) from up to two employers in Canada for at least one year; OR a certificate of qualification* from a provincial or territorial body.
  2. Demonstrated language proficiency meeting the Minister’s minimum threshold — Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, CLB 4 for reading and writing.
  3. Acquired 2 years of full-time work experience (or an equivalent amount of part-time work) in the skilled trade within the five years preceding the application.
  4. The ability to showcase skills, experience, and the performance of essential duties of the occupation.

A certificate of qualification validates that a foreign national is eligible to work in a skilled trade occupation in Canada. Possession of this certificate indicates that applicants have successfully completed a certification exam or fulfilled all the necessary requirements to practice their trade in a specific province or territory.

Skilled work experience eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Class falls under the following categories of the National Occupational Classification (NOC):

  • Major Group 72: industrial, electrical and construction trades,
  • Major Group 73: maintenance and equipment operation trades,
  • Major Group 82: supervisors and technical jobs in natural resources, agriculture and related production,
  • Major Group 92: processing, manufacturing and utilities supervisors and central control operators,
  • Minor Group 632: chefs and cooks, and
Minor Group 633: butchers and bakers

Canadian Experience Class

These applications are processed through the Express Entry selection system. Eligible candidates must express their interest in immigrating to Canada, create an online Express Entry profile, and receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence before submitting their application. This is a popular option for international students and temporary foreign workers, making them ideal candidates for Canadian immigration (permanent residence). With Canadian work experience, these individuals have already integrated into Canadian society, establishing significant networks in their communities and careers.

CEC Requirements

Applicants must fulfill the following minimum requirements. They must:

  1. Have acquired a minimum of one year of skilled, professional, or technical work experience in Canada within 36 months of the application date.
  2. Meet the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5 (“initial intermediate”) or 7 (“adequate intermediate proficiency”), depending on the job level.
  3. Intend to reside and work outside the province of Quebec.

Applicants can stay in Canada during the application process. However, the Canadian Experience Class is also open to individuals no longer in Canada, provided they submit their application within three years of leaving their job in Canada.
